This 1940's intaglio is a handmade reverse cameo with an incised, etched image using the very same process used by Bohemian glass makers of the last centuries. 

The art of intaglios comes from ancient Greece and Rome. It was born in the beginning as a method of creating seals, to be pressed on wax, but soon it was also used in jewelry making.
